Wynoochee Lake shore west side. 9.5 miles
Moderately challenged- mainly just because of the distance
My first backpacking trip we had originally planned on doing the loop around the entire lake, but we had heard some rumors of the trail being a bit rough so we had opted to stay on the East side. With carrying such heavy packs we wanted to stay close to the road and where we knew there would be other campers. So this was an interesting venture. I had worked the night before and the gals had quite a late night... HAHA. But we bucked up and started the trail.
The west side of the lake was so much easier then the east, part of it is even logging road. The trail on this side was very well taken care of. If you start at the south end of the lake and head north you get treated with a beautiful waterfall.
The water in the area is beautiful, but the little area where the waterfall is is a bit dangerous to try and get to the water. I would highly not recommend trying.
Here was the first peek of some falls/rapids. The picture does not give the water color justice... it was sooo blue! Something else we found many just before midway was a boat-in or backpacking campground. I did not see a road nearby and the sign we saw said boat access so.... I will check it out further next time.
Beautiful little falls, I have been up in this area many times and have gone to Wynoochee Falls MANY times but I had no idea this one was even there. Over all this was a nice easy hike, I definitely will plan another backpacking trip and actually do the loop next year.
