Crystal Digging! 2020

So if you know me, you know I am a rockhound! So when I found out you could literally dig quartz quartz here in Washington I was game. AND it turned out I had a friend that had been to a location and was willing to take me. I had no idea I would end up making four trips total this Summer. People call it Hansen Creek but the Hansen Creek trail is actually above the actual digging location. This is a VERY heavily trafficked area mainly because of the crystal digging.
So I will advise now this location isn't hard to get to be it would be advised a SUV or vehicle not low to the ground should be taken. The first time we took a Jeep so I didn't notice the road being all that bad... but the second time I went we took a Ford Taurus and we had to take the drive very very slow and ended up bottoming out twice. So I would recommend not taking your Camaro (yes I saw someone attempting this and they did not make it). Another bit of advise, while I have not had any issues personally, could be because I open carry while in the woods, I have heard of people having issues with creepers and people making others feel very uncomfortable so please don't go alone and be aware of your surroundings. There have also be reports of animals (bear and mountain lions), one even of a cat stalking a small family as they walked the trail. So PLEASE be safe!!
My first go at digging, it was raining the entire time but since we are in the woods and partially in a hole it wasn't too bad. I found some beautiful specimens on my first trip from crystal clear to milky and many rust stained. We spent 5ish hours digging, but it don't feel like it at all we lost track of time very easily.
My second time going I was a bit more prepare and had done s lot more research. I had gotten a better shovel, a small hoe and stabby tool, we have a much better setup. The third time we went was actually the next day because a friend was super jealous of our loot for that day.
I found my first Amethyst during our third trip. I was so excited when I found this. This trip we had a few more people and ended up having an pretty awesome setup. We found a spot "base camp" where we kept all our gear, food, and even had a speaker for a bit of tunes, this trip was very plentiful. I took my son on this trip for his birthday and he was instantly hooked!
So I decided to purchase a couple dirt sifters, definitely made the process easier. GREAT purchase! So the last time we went because the guys were jealous of our loot and wanted to go digging. We ended up with a vehicle full, coolers packed, and LOTS of equipment. My son ended up finding a smokey quartz! I had never seen any reports of smokey quartz found here so I was pretty excited for him and I found another beautiful amethyst.
The awesome smokey quartz my kid found.
