So after my first backpacking trip I learned a lot. Before I get into so easy, cheap ideas, here are some of the things I learned. (I am sure I will add and adjust this post as I continue my adventures)
One even though we weren't in bear country it was smart to keep the food in some sort of dry bag, for two reasons (1) if something spills or breaks open its contained to the dry bag and not all over your gear (2) you can easily hang a dry bag away from your site to keep away from animals and the bag will keep your items dry. The items placed in the dry bag should be packaged individually, we used ziplock bags they work perfect as we could reuse them for garbage and waste, plus if something did break open it was also self contained to its own baggy.
I love eggs, real eggs! I cannot bring myself to do the dry eggs but I came up with a pretty good idea for us to bring real eggs. get SEVERAL ziplock bags, break open however my eggs you think you need, scramble them and place them in a baggy, then that baggy in a baggy, and just for safe keeping another. make room in your freezer and place it in your freezer in whatever shape, I laid mine flat (I have a small cooler with self contained freezer packs that is flat, worked perfect for eggs and bacon). Now I know that is a bit luxurious but the protein is much needed. I also LOVE bacon and we cut the bacon in half and put it in a few ziplock baggies and this also worked great for lunch time snacks.
Fruit or flavored oatmeal packed work great!
Breakfast, protein, or fiber bars are easy to store and also make great snacks.
Lunch
So I get made fun of for this but one of my go-to hiking or backpacking foods are tortilla shells, you can do so much with them... bacon cheese wraps... PBJ wraps... meat wraps... peanut butter and banana wraps... and of course quesadillas. OR plain for a quick snack when you never some carbs.
Veggies and fruits are also a go-to for me, helps hydrate you and healthy.
Snacks
TORILLAS!!!
Fruit snacks
Fruits and veggies
Meat and Cheese sticks
Be careful with sweets that have a potential of melting if it is warm out.
Dinner
So if you can't tell I love food, so packing in something so I can have a tasty much deserved dinner after hiking a long way or climbing a mountain I am just fine with. BUT... for times sake here are a few easy dinner ideas.
Bear Creek dehydrated soups- there is a huge variety and they are tasty. Link but you can buy them at any grocery store
Grilled cheese (with meat)
Quesadillas
Drinks
Drinks
So one little handy thing I started doing recently to try and avoid that nasty rubber taste from my water bladder, is I add a gatorade (size depending on how how much flavor you want) the top it off with water. It works amazingly.
There are so many flavor packs out there now-a-days, dry or liquid, coffee, teas, gatorade, lemonade, seriously there are so many.
Who doesn't enjoy a victory beer or drink!! Besides the much deserved victory beverage there are so many water flavor ideas.

Something I have purchased after my first backpacking trip that I haven't used yet but ad very excited to use the a gravity fed Sawyer filtration with a gallon capacity. Link it was about $50 but I think it was totally worth it.
